City and University collaborate to improve canteens (19/05/2012)

This agreement will allow the City to obtain the scientific and technical support that can provide Research Group, Department of Food Science and Food Technology, University of Murcia.

With this collaboration, which began in 2008, real innovation is achieved by shifting scientific methodologies to the daily practice of the administration, getting real improvements in the quality of life related to health of citizens.

The City of Murcia in 2005 acceded to the Declaration of Santander by the Federation of Municipalities and the Ministry of Health adopted the National Strategy NAOS-Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity Prevention.

Recent epidemiological studies show that Murcia has a prevalence of overweight among the highest in Spain and consumer surveys indicate a departure from the Mediterranean dietary pattern, so you should pay special attention to nutritional risk groups such as children and the elderly.

Obesity induces cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and some cancers.

The agreement runs for one year and the budget is allocated is 15,000 euros
