UPyD Murcia presented in Parliament an initiative to mark the International Day Against Homophobia (16/05/2012)

The municipal group Progress and Democracy Union in the city of Murcia take the next plenary session an initiative to mark the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia to ask the Consistory reaffirm its commitment to the fight against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

In addition, the proposal includes a specific mention of rejection and condemnation of any attitude, action, expression and dye homophobic legislation and the inclusion of homosexual couples in the current law on domestic violence.

As explained at a press conference Murcia UPyD spokesman, Ruben Serna, "this is an initiative that we, unfortunately, very necessary and that UPyD presented in all municipalities in the region where it has representation."

"We" continues Serna, "that the various political groups to speak out and express their unqualified and absolute refusal to homophobia" and also express their support to all those people who see their rights violated because of this.

Meanwhile, the mayor of the City of UPyD in Molina de Segura, Encarna Hernandez, also present at the press conference, wanted to remember that still occur today discriminatory statements based on sexual orientation or gender.

Examples of these recalled those held recently by a councilor of the popular group in the consistory molinense, who made several homophobic comments through Twitter.

The motion to mark the International Day Against Homophobia was by far UPyD in municipalities Molina de Segura, Caravaca and Los Alcazares, which has been rejected in all cases.
