The Governing Board of the City of Murcia has given the green light this morning to draft regulations for the establishment of the Municipal Council of the City of Murcia Equality.
This is a sector and consultative involving women's associations, the Federation of Women and the political groups represented in the city of Murcia.
This Council will act at the municipal level to uphold the principles of equality and non discrimination on grounds of gender.
Remember that the councilor Equality Policy and Development Cooperation, Alicia Barquero, and met last January with representatives of opposition political groups (Socialist Party, Greens and UPyD IU) to discuss the rules of that Municipal Council of Equality.
The Council's functions are to provide women with the municipality the opportunity to participate in developing policies on equal opportunities between men and women, through their associations, organizations and municipal entities in which they are integrated; ensure compliance with the Municipal Plan for Equality, to ensure the participation of women and mainstreaming gender in all organs of municipal participation and propose campaigns, among other things.
The Council consists of a president, vice president, secretary, political groups, the Federation of Associations of Women and a maximum of ten members of women's associations in the municipality.
