Do Carmo, who is currently a researcher emeritus of the National Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA) in Rio de Janeiro, is the author of fourteen books, including "Differential Geometric Curves and Surfaces" (1976), a bedside book of new generations of Spanish mathematicians and that meant opening the doors in Spain in this matter.
The granting of the appointment is made on a proposal from the Faculty of Mathematics, through the research group and Convex Differential Geometry, one of whom, Professor José Luis Linares Alías, will speak at the investiture ceremony as a sponsor.
The solemn ceremony will be chaired by the Rector, José Antonio Cobacho, and develop, starting at 18:00 pm in the auditorium Lumeras Hermenegildo Castro (across from the Faculty of Biology), Espinardo campus.
After the inauguration, which will feature musical performances of the Chamber Ensemble of the University Orchestra and Quartet Soloist of the University Choir, the rector delivered a plaque to the staff of the Faculty of Arts Juan Serrano Labana occasion of his retirement.
