Cooperation in May dedicated to showing the work of NGOs working with African township (04/05/2012)

The Department of Development Cooperation, who runs Alicia Barquero, May dedicated to Africa, and to publicize the work of NGOs in the municipality working to improve the living conditions of the inhabitants of the continent.

School visits, exhibitions and screening of a documentary are among the activities planned.

This time participate in the activities of NGOs in Action Blue, Entreculturas Cooperation and the Association of Friends of the Saharawi people.

Murcia City Council participates in the financing of projects of these NGOs.

Africa Day is celebrated on May 25 commemorating the founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), which groups countries in Africa.

Founded in 1963, its aims were to promote unity and solidarity of African states, eradicating colonialism and promote international cooperation.

Since 1992 the city of Murcia has earmarked EUR 2,158,463 to finance municipal projects of NGOs working with Africa.

This is primarily educational, health, infrastructure facility, rights, etc..

The activities that develop each NGO are:

-Blue in Action.

This NGO has mounted an exhibition at the Exhibition Hall of the Municipal Center in Barrio del Carmen which presents 12 photos that have a decent Africa, positive and hopeful.

Some of the photos are of refugees and other work of the NGO.

The exhibition will be open until May 11, Monday to Friday, from 10 to 13 hours, and 17-21 pm in the Municipal Center of El Carmen (Alameda Capuchin, 32).

The NGO will provide lectures in schools in the municipality in order to publicize its work in Africa.

To raise funds, this organization holds each year the Olympic Solidarity Study, which helps the city of Murcia.

Each student who enrolls comes to the proposed study rooms and convert your hours of study in euros, thanks to donations from sponsors.

The money goes to fund educational projects in Ivory Coast, Congo and Cameroon.

Each hour of study is a dollar that is donated.

-Association of Friends of the Saharawi people.

This organization will also offer talks in schools in the municipality.

The NGO was founded in 1989 to help the people of Western Sahara and its refugees.

The organization offers assistance in the fields of education, culture, food, health and water treatment, water extraction and distribution.

Since 1990 developed Holidays in Peace program, whereby children from 8 to 12 spend the summer with host families in Murcia.
