Environment signed an agreement with the Association of Friends of the Garden of Murcia Boltánico to publicize the floral wealth of the Malecon (03/05/2012)

In order to help preserve and maintain the botany of the municipality of Murcia, the council of Environment of the City of Murcia, who heads Adela Martinez-Cachá, signs a cooperation agreement with the Association of Friends of the Botanical Garden of Murcia.

The Department of Environment has as its objective to make the green areas of the municipality to become a conservation reserve of our plant biodiversity, with special attention to our native flora, to ensure that sustainability and achieving environmental excellence become a reality, both for local government to residents of the municipality.

The Association of Friends of the Botanical Garden of Murcia, is a non-profit, regional and with full capacity to act, formed by residents of the Malecon and the district of San Antolin, users and plant lovers and space Garden Pier, whose objectives include the promotion of botany and his teaching as well as promote awareness of plant diversity and contribute to the protection of endangered species by spreading.

Within their respective areas, the Association of Friends of the Botanical Garden wants to collaborate with the city of Murcia in bringing the nature of the Region of Murcia citizens following the educational ideal of the botanical gardens, showing profits to humans ( medical, food, etc.). and ecological role they have in the middle.

To make known the botanical wealth of the Malecon Garden, it will carry out a major project on the teaching of botany in the garden, with planting and maintenance volunteers from two collections of plants in separate beds dedicated to teaching this discipline and the enjoyment of plant lovers.

Specifically, it proposes to manage a flower to create a collection of native and endemic shrubs of the Region of Murcia, and devote the central space to plant species used in the Murcia region (ethnobotany), and a parterre for the presentation of ornamental plants and floral selections.

The left is devoted to the collection of representative plants of the region of Murcia, and the bed of the right (the half that is not occupied) would go to a selection of floral and ornamental plants.

With the planting and maintenance of two collections of plants will foster care for plants in landscaped areas and provide a natural and healthy activity for residents and friends of that garden, how altruistic increasing the rich botanical heritage of the Garden of Malecon .

The partnership will ensure the natural and cultural values ​​of this historic place, revealing the history related to the former Provincial Institute and the former convent of the Franciscan brothers.

They also have plans to conduct parallel activities, promoting and organizing various activities with volunteers from the association which include: guided tours, botanical routes, hiking, gardening workshops, courses in botany, floral competitions and exhibitions.

Planting and maintenance of plant species will be made by the members and volunteers of the association: botanists, researchers and university students, environmental volunteers and neighbors who love gardening and environmental and cultural area.

All proposed activities will be held with the utmost respect for the neighbors without generating noise and without disturbing other users of the garden of the Malecon, and in doing so, encourage healthy habits in this area in line with sustainability.
