Information note of the act of reading the opinion of the Jury of the Competition of Ideas (14/02/2012)

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism wishes to express its satisfaction with the development of the selection process in the Competition of Ideas for the Future Center for Medieval Interpretation of Murcia in the archaeological site of San Esteban, and the sound level of the proposed solutions since it is manifest in them solid experience, imagination and sensitivity of all participating teams and a very special way, of the six selected.

All proposals selected point to a dialogue between conservation and exhibition of the medieval remains and the use and enjoyment of this urban space as a public square, equipped with various contents of a social and cultural.

Similarly, all projects show a special sensitivity for everything that has to do with urbanism kind to the environment in regard to the use of natural lighting and even renewable energy.

We thought it appropriate that the artwork provided in the Competition of Ideas for the six selected is disseminated to the public at a public exhibition, whose headquarters will be announced shortly.

Thus, the public can check the good level of individual projects and gauge the importance that this project will have for the future of the landscape and skyline of the city of Murcia.

This good level of projects is an excellent opportunity for the city of Murcia, which has now with a project that undoubtedly will be critical to its future, since it reflects the recovery of a central urban area, vital for trade emblematic of citizenship, all in conjunction with the enhancement of a site whose archaeological interest augurs well for this project can become attraction for tourism.

From this moment, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, through the Directorate General of Cultural Assets, and always within the strict limits of its powers, will continue to ensure the conservation of the site and made available to the City at the time to seek funding and technical support for this project, which can become an emblem for the City.

This funding could be channeled through some type of legal structure that would allow the City of Murcia lead the joint efforts of the various authorities concerned: municipal, regional and national, all present in the jury resolved this contest; and attract private funding can take advantage of the benefits it has to offer immediate approval of the Patronage Act, announced by the Government of Spain.

This legal structure, led by the city of Murcia and which would be present all the administrations involved and sponsoring entities, should be resolved and decided that the final project, details of which shall be endorsed with rigor by the Directorate General of Cultural Property, especially in relation to the conservation of the site, according to the provisions of the Cultural Heritage Act.

In this sense, tomorrow, Wednesday February 15, traveled to Madrid general director of Cultural Property in the Region of Murcia, Francisco Giménez, for an interview with the Director of Fine Arts and Cultural Heritage and Archives and Libraries of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, Jesus Prieto of Peter, which will address this and other matters of interest to both governments, such as Lorca Estate Recovery and deposit of underwater findings from the wreck of the Nuestra Senora de las Mercedes the ARQUA.
