Terra Natura Murcia built his first pair of birds aviary a hammer (26/01/2012)

The nature and animal park Terra Natura Murcia has added to its catalog of species for the first time a pair of birds hammer (Umbretta Scopus).

Both specimens inhabit, from today, in the aviary complex currently residing in more than 200 birds of 35 species in Africa and peninsular.

The female and the male came from the Barcelona Zoo.

Despite its small size, which is usually around 55 inches long and weighing 470 grams, this species makes a nest with world's largest.

In fact, the nest may sometimes have a structure of about two meters in a dome shape and can weigh over 50 Kilos.

The name given popularly as' birds hammer "is due to the unique shape of your head and feathers of the back that resemble this tool.

Before joining the rest of birds, caregivers have a stool test done to rule out the possible existence of parasites, intestinal bacteria or viruses in the female and the male who just arrived recently Murcia facilities.

After confirming that both birds were in perfect health, we have proceeded to drop them into the aviary to begin to adapt to their new environment.

For now, both copies are very confident and perfectly tolerate the presence of visitors.

This species of birds are usually fed mainly on small amphibians and reptiles.

This bird is sedentary so it tends to occupy a territory usually defined, although some couples do not hesitate to move if the environment suffers some alteration.
