Entrepreneurial activity in Murcia is at the head of Spain (10/01/2012)

The rate of entrepreneurial activity in the Murcia region stood at 4.1% during 2010, ranking fifth among the regions, according to results of the latest report GEM (Global Entrepreneurship Monitor), which was presented at School of Law, University of Murcia.

The study shows encouraging data considering the context of crisis, according to its makers, which in the Murcia is a team led by University professors and Alicia Aragon Antonio Rubio, though in the Region of Murcia entrepreneurial activity has declined by 26, 3% and the rate stood at its lowest level since 2006.

As positive indicators in the region, highlighted the decline in the number of entrepreneurial initiatives abandoned over 2009, the increase in the percentage of entrepreneurs who found a market opportunity during the year under review, increased seed capital and business level of training of those who start a business and that the efforts of over 42 months are enduring the crisis well.

By contrast, there has been a significant decline in female entrepreneurship, a level of disposable income of entrepreneurs below previous years and a decrease in industrial companies (companies in the service sector and consumption increase their share to their detriment ).

The GEM report notes the importance of government policies and programs in support of entrepreneurs and current funding problems faced by businesses as well as gaps in innovation and the need to increase entrepreneurial awareness through education and training projects .

The lack of entrepreneurial culture in Spanish society, in the view of those involved in the act, one of the main weaknesses of the national economy.

In this regard, the rector of the University of Murcia, Jose Antonio Cobacho, said efforts are being made in the educational institution to promote entrepreneurship among students "so that there are people who believe businesses and wealth to help tackle the big Spain's problem: unemployment. "

Sponsors of the study include Cajamurcia Foundation and the Ministry of Universities, Business and Research, which was represented by the Director of Development Institute (INFO), Juan Hernandez, who insisted on the cultural change has to be given to the business ceases to be "stigmatized".

The head of the Research Department Cajamurcia Joaquin Aranda, referred in his speech to the low percentage (4%) of entrepreneurs with a university degree, while showing the disposition of the financial institution to help entrepreneurs, "in extent that circumstances permit, "but acknowledged the lack of current funding for delinquency afflicting the financial sector.

Meanwhile, Alicia Coduras, coordinator of the national report, spread to the rest of the positive trend change, while maintaining prudence, he said, because much of the increased activity is a low-quality entrepreneurship driven by the need .
