The University of Murcia and Jesus Forsaken call for solidarity (23/12/2011)

The heads of the University of Murcia and the Foundation "Jesus Forsaken" have made today a call for solidarity in the act of signing an agreement that aims to encourage the university community to provide a monthly payroll amount for welfare purposes of the organization.

The general secretary of the University and promoter of the agreement, Joaquín Lomba, said that "it is a helping hand in times of extreme hardship as we are experiencing, and we hope that the initiative be successful."

Lomba explained that the workers of the University, about four thousand, may apply to the Payroll section every month they detract amounts ranging from five dollars to one hundred euros.

"The proceeds, he added, will be transferred to Jesus Forsaken and this foundation will inform us about the destination of the funds delivered to him."

Foundation president, Jose Fernandez, said that at present are two hundred people that eat and dine daily in facilities located in Murcia, while an equal number sleeping in the shelter of the Santa Catalina Highway, fifty of them residents.

Fernandez also said that they notice the crisis, which is observed in the reduction of goods received, especially in this Christmas, "so that this pathway that opens with the University may serve to alleviate the situation and initiate a path coming to agreements with other institutions and entities ".

He has also indicated that the contributions to this organization are tax breaks.

For his part, Vice President of the Foundation, Jose Moreno, said that "this agreement we signed with the University is an example, that surely encourage other institutions to do the same."

The rector of the University, José Antonio Cobacho, commented that "if there were no Jesus abandoned and did not lend the welfare work carried out, the country runs the risk of social disruption."

At the signing also attended by the Vice Chancellor of Institutional Relations, Manuel Vidal, and the rector of Coordination and Communication, María Ángeles Esteban.
