NGOs Local Police and Fire Departments continue to work for the reconstruction of Haiti (23/12/2011)

Blue in Action NGOs, Local Police Murcia and Firefighters in Action, involving the Fire Department of the City of Murcia, continue working in Haiti to rebuild the country.

The two NGOs have just returned from Haiti, where they are working on projects with the collaboration of the Department of Political Equality and Development Cooperation of the Municipality of Murcia, who runs Alicia Barquero.

Haiti has a population of almost one million inhabitants, of whom 70% are on the threshold of poverty.

In January 2010 an earthquake measuring 7.3 degrees on the Richter scale shook the country leaving 316,000 dead, 350,000 injured and 1.5 million homeless.

In late October the same year an outbreak of cholera was again ravaged the population.

Blue in Action works directly with those affected by this disease, especially children.

Mainly worked on the purchase of kits consisting of hygiene products (chlorine, water purification tablets, soap, etc..) Who have given directly to families living in refugee camps, benefiting over 300 families.

At the same time, serum bought boxes that were distributed in hospitals.

Funding for these activities is derived primarily from the sale of solidarity calendar that took place last year in collaboration with the city of Murcia.

Blue raised 7750 euros in Action.

For their part, Fire in Action has worked in the construction of temporary shelters in Haiti to improve the quality of life of thousands of people left homeless.

This NGO has developed, together with the College of Architects and the UCAM, a shelter that was built from rubble of the earthquake, and has been in the country and teaching building shelters for the victims to manufacture themselves.

The City Fire Department in Action works with an NGO grant has been allocated entirely to the purchase of material.

In addition, the Development Cooperation Department has participated in the organization of the First Action Fire Motoalmuerzo City of Murcia, which drew about 600 bikers.
