The Mayor Chamber highlights the ability of cooperatives to generate decent employment and welfare in society (17/12/2011)

The Mayor presented a motion urging the next plenary session of the City's accession to the UN resolution to proclaim 2012 as International Year of Cooperatives

750 cooperatives, 10,000 members and 6,000 workers in the agricultural sector are the large numbers which indicate the weight and relevance of cooperative enterprises on the local economy, and so today highlighted the Mayor, Miguel Ángel Cámara, in his speech at the commemoration of World Day of Cooperatives XXI, held this morning at the Teatro Circo.

Camera has referred to the importance of cooperatives as "business model key drivers of economic and social de Murcia" and announced that next week's plenary debate a motion by the Mayor in support of this sector and to promote adhesion of the City to the United Nations resolution has proclaimed 2012 as International Year of Cooperatives.

"There are several options for business and generate economic activity, but the formula is perhaps the most cooperative and effective solidarity towards the economic and social inclusion," added Miguel Angel Camara, who has concluded his address by reiterating "the commitment of City of Murcia with cooperatives of our town and the region by the work of welfare benefit and progress. "
