The Museum of Science and Water hosts the show "Mars-Earth. A comparative anatomy" (16/12/2011)

The exhibition will be until next January 29, 2012

The councilman of Culture, Rafael Gomez, director of business area "la Caixa" in Murcia, Gerardo Quartet, and the exhibition curator, Ignacio Casanova, inaugurated this morning the show "Mars-Earth in Murcia", a of the main goals of planetary exploration.

Mars and Earth.

A comparative anatomy suggests some examples of the fascinating anatomy of two planetary bodies closely linked, with landscapes almost indistinguishable.

Parallel stories of two worlds, however, are now very different.

The exhibition can be seen in the Museum of Science and Water (Plaza de la Science, 1) through January 29, 2012.

To touch a piece of Martian meteorite found on Earth is one of the main attractions of the first part of the exhibition.

Two models of these planets embossed welcome visitors.

Through them, may have a first visual impact of their similarities and differences as the diameter of Mars (6794 km) is half of the Earth (12,756 km) or that both hemispheres are very different.

In the red planet's north-south difference is while the Earth is also east and west.

A panel of three meters with 24 images will test the knowledge of the visitors on your planet.

So have to guess if the pictures are belong to the Earth or Mars.

Geological activity on Mars

Mars is a much smaller planet than Earth, so its interior is cooled faster.

All internal processes such as volcanism or plate movement broke long ago, and the planet died, geologically speaking.

Are witnesses of the ancient domestic activity, some large volcanoes like Olympus Mons, 27 km high, a huge fault more than 6,000 km in length, the Valles Marineris, and the presence of two large plates that may be displaced as even today, so do the land.

Martian meteorology

The Martian atmosphere and its dynamics are elsewhere in the sample.

It explains that Mars and Earth have very similar rotation periods, and both react the same way to the daily cycles of heating and cooling.

The hydrology

The latest news coming from the images captured by NASA shows the gullies caused by liquid water has flowed sometime after 2000.

This area puts an end to the Mars-Earth exposure.

A comparative anatomy

The analogy and contrast, ie how similar or different one from the other, is the educational base of this exposure.

See the same geological, meteorological and hydrological Mars, with its differences from the Earth, will help us understand them better.
