The research group of Public Health and Epidemiology at the University of Murcia, headed by Professor Alberto Torres, has participated in a study linking the consumption of so-called Mediterranean diet and sperm mobility, one of the three parameters that define semen quality.
Positively associated research-based diet high consumption of fish, fruit, vegetables, legumes and cereals integrated with the percentage of motile sperm in the subject.
By contrast, a dietary pattern characterized by abundant intake of red meat, processed meat, pizzas, snacks, sweets and soft drinks is associated with a lower sperm motility.
Diet, according to the results of the investigation, does not seem to have an impact on two other parameters of semen quality: the form (sperm morphology) and the number of sperm (sperm density).
