The University of Murcia put into service an adaptation technique that improves contact lens myopia (18/11/2011)

The Integral Vision University Hospital of the University of Murcia, who leads the Professor Edmundo Uson, has launched Orthokeratology section, a technique to adapt to rigid contact lens aims at the elimination of refractive errors, mainly myopia and astigmatism.

The director of this new section, Professor Diego López Alcon also has noted that "the technique is not new, as it was developed in the early sixties, but has been in the last decade that has emerged with greater force because the appearance of oxygen-permeable materials and the easy acquisition of surveyors by clinicians. Alcon Lopez added that it uses a special lens, called reverse geometry, which are designed so that when placed in the eye the cornea flattens and compensates for myopia and astigmatism.

"The newest, has said the scientist, is used for sleeping, that is, while you sleep is compensated for myopia and astigmatism, and get up and take off your glasses, you see well, enjoying a crisp, clear vision for the day. "

The effect on the cornea is temporary, so these lenses should be used every night, although corneal molding low rankings may take several days.

Alcon Lopez also said that "this technique is beneficial in children and adolescents in the increase of myopia is worrying, and another benefit is that people are not suitable for corneal refractive surgery for excessive weight loss."
