Murcia and Natural Gas seal their alliance to implement a cleaner and sustainable mobility (24/10/2011)

Companies in the region, including Disfrimur and lawns, compressed natural gas used in their fleets.

Besides the environmental benefits, the kilometer traveled by a vehicle with this fuel is 25% cheaper than is supplied with petrol or diesel.

Murcia is the fourth largest Spanish city that has a gas station for public vehicles.

Chamber notes that it is a step that confirms the commitment of Murcia for a new mobility model that respects the environment and fighting in the fight against climate change.

Achieving a cleaner and sustainable mobility is a prerequisite for building an eco-town environment and committed to the fight against climate change.

Hence, the continued development of initiatives by the City to secure this.

In this sense, the Mayor, Miguel Angel House, accompanied by the Director of Energy Solutions Services Natural Gas, Josep Codorniú, explained the agreement between both parties for the promotion and dissemination of the use of natural gas as automotive fuel.

The actions carried out are part of current energy policies aimed at the use of cleaner energy, promoting energy conservation and efficiency, promoting renewable energy and improving air quality.

Specifically, the protocol signed today will allow Murcia have the first point of load supply for natural gas vehicles considered the most environmentally-environment in the region, thus advancing sustainability policies, especially in the field of clean energy.

The measure includes the joint study of the amount and location of supply points, so you must design a cargo net and the procurement of equipment and installation thereof in public spaces.

Thus, Murcia take the first steps to promote mobility by compressed natural gas in the city, starting with the installation of the supply point, which is built on was high and will be operational next December.

Lawn and Disfrimur addition, the use of natural gas as fuel may also provide public transport buses.

Murcia has thus become the fourth largest city after Madrid-Spanish, Barcelona and Valencia to have these public facilities.

"A commitment of all"

The Mayor has indicated the importance of initiatives like this because "it is imperative to be ambitious and add the necessary efforts to achieve a successful exit Murcia in the fight against climate change."

Chamber was pleased by the agreement with Natural Gas Services for the promotion of sustainable mobility in Murcia, while it has demanded the participation of all citizens because "it is a goal that the City Council and German can not win alone.

Need to Murcia are made aware that personal and social actors are involved on a collective level, each in its field and scope. "

"We work to build a better Murcia from the environmental standpoint and the way to achieve this can only go with continuous and determined, and we present today is one of them," said House.

A clean fuel

Today, the traditional transportation accounts for 28% of global energy consumption and 34% of CO2 emissions, hence the importance of encouraging comprehensive solutions that reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions.

Compressed natural gas is considered a clean fuel and therefore more respectful of the environment than oil because it reduces CO2 emissions by up to 30%, no traces of lead and heavy metals, no suspended solid particles emitted or sulfur dioxide, greatly reduced emissions of nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons and produces lower levels of noise emission and vibration of diesel engines.

In the case of the fleet of Grass, the specifications that governed the award of the service and included the use of fuels and / or technologies, such as biofuels, natural gas and hybrid vehicles and / or electrical for the purpose of seeking a greater sustainability according to the mobility model chosen for the municipality.

With this decision, save Murcia 1868 Teq CO2 per year compared to the pollution that would result if he had chosen to current diesel engines.

A diesel collection vehicle emits nearly 280 tons of CO2 per year, whereas if it supplies compressed natural gas is reduced by 70 tons per year less, which implies a decrease of 25%.

The addition of compressed natural gas mobility in the municipality of Murcia joins other initiatives launched earlier that also aim to help design a municipality involved in protecting the environment.

Other significant developments have come from the hand of the tram, the promotion of cycling as a regular means of transport, improvement of urban spaces for pedestrians, the forthcoming restructuring of public transport service, adding hybrid vehicles to fleet Hall and the car fleet renewal service for street cleaning and collection of municipal waste.
