The Mayor opened the "show of solidarity" of Murcia (30/09/2011)

23 ONG'D expose the work done in developing countries with the support of Murcia.

In the past 10 years, the City has allocated 5.5 million euros to finance cooperation projects.

Murcia's solidarity has been present in the hurricanes of El Salvador and the Philippines or the earthquakes in Haiti and Lorca.

ONG'D 23 associations and participating in this year Cooperating Fair which opened this morning by the Mayor, Miguel Ángel Cámara, accompanied by the Councillor for Equality Policy and Development Cooperation, Alicia Barquero, in the Plaza de Santo Domingo.

This second edition of the show, which will be open until next Sunday, is part of the events organized by the City to commemorate the Day of Cooperating with which it seeks to highlight the work being done by ONG'D with the support of Murcia.

This day is celebrated on September 8, coinciding with the date of the Millennium Declaration, adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations in 2000 and signed by 189 countries around the world.

In Murcia it was decided to postpone the date at the end of September to give it greater significance.

The objective of this initiative is to pay tribute to those who leave to work in developing countries, either in development cooperation projects and humanitarian aid in areas that have suffered a disaster.

The projects they work on aid workers from the municipality ONG'D cover essential needs for people in disadvantaged countries in the health, educational, productive, social services, governance and humanitarian aid basically.

Providing health care in doctors' offices, building schools, promoting productive through the creation of small communities, cooperatives or micro-projects and support to municipalities.

To finance these activities, the City has allocated 5.5 million euros for cooperation projects in the last 10 years.

With this budget, have been working ONG'D projects mainly in South and Central America and Africa, especially:

- Africa: Algeria (Sahara), Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Tanzania.

- Central America: El Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras.

- South America: Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Paraguay.

- Asia: India, Indonesia and the Philippines.

- Europe: Spain (projects of awareness), and Bosnia.

The presence of Murcia's cooperation has been found in the latest disasters occurred in the world, such as floods in Ecuador (2008), hurricanes Gustav and Ike in Cuba and Haiti (2008), hurricanes in El Salvador, Indonesia and the Philippines ( 2009), earthquake of Haiti (2010) and, of course, Lorca (2011).

In addition to the Fair opened today, the Commemoration Day Murcia is completed Cooperating with other acts, as the two photographic exhibitions at the Centre Cultural del Barrio del Carmen which will run until next Friday.

One palliri Association on different images of El Alto in Bolivia, the other picks up the contrasts of India and belongs to the Fundación Vicente Ferrer.

Another activity has been initiated awareness talks in schools.
