The municipal group Unión Progreso y Democracia Murcia City Council, through its Councillor José Antonio Sotomayor, has filed a motion to be discussed at the next plenary in order to reduce the impact of pollen from parks and gardens from the center of the municipality, that have a high rate allergen.

The measure is motivated by the large number of allergy sufferers in the region, the formation has been estimated at some 275,000 according to expert studies in 2008 allergists.

Likewise, the economic impact caused by sick leave, health care and pharmaceutical costs, is another aspect for which the formation led by Rosa Díez, saw fit to include this proposal in its program and now, bring it to debate in plenary.

The mayor, José Antonio Sotomayor, said the proposal is not based on elimination of a sudden everything that produces high-pollination, but "little by little replaced, but especially in those gardens or planting new creation, used plants and flowers of low impact. "

It also said: "We will propose to the competent Department, which explore the possibility of an agreement between the City and IMIDA (Instituto Murciano Research and Agricultural Development and Food), to study treatments to inhibit the flowering of the olive tree" .
