The ambassador of Paraguay is grateful to Murcia in improving the education of the indigenous peoples of Chaco (12/09/2011)

The UNESCO Centre and the municipalities of Murcia Region will launch a project to involve children, the elderly and women's centers

Paraguay's ambassador in Spain, Oscar Cabello, thanked the City of Murcia and other municipalities in the region its collaboration with the UNESCO Centre Murcia projects to build schools and improve education in indigenous peoples of the Chaco area of ​​Paraguay .

The UNESCO Centre Murcia, with the help of local councils, has built five schools, one with the name of the Councillor of the Municipality of Murcia Remigio Lopez, who died last year.

Councilwoman Policies Equality and Development Cooperation of the Municipality of Murcia, Alicia Barquero, stressed that with this project, which began in 2007, has made access to education thousand children and youth, and improving hygiene conditions health of students and their families.

Besides the construction of schools, has been the material container area, have donated two ambulances which have become two mobile health centers with the presence of a doctor one day a week-have installed bathrooms in schools using students and their families, and students are given one meal a day at school.

Also, teachers Murcia have developed textbooks for indigenous children in the area.

New Initiative

The UNESCO Centre and the municipalities of Murcia Region will implement the project "Intercultural and intergenerational coexistence 'to continue working in the area.

The new initiative will involve the Department of Social Services, Cooperation, Education, Culture and the area of ​​Women of the municipalities.

The director of this project is Jessica Lopez Nieto, coordinator Mari Carmen Hidalgo Baeza.
