Under the Plan for Intensification of Energy Efficiency and Savings approved by the Council of Ministers of March 4, 2011 and 2008-2012 Action Plan Strategy and Efficiency Savings in Spain from 2004 to 2012, the IDEA approved in Board of Directors March 29, 2011, the launch of a pilot project for the renewal of energy-efficient tires on passenger cars, known as Tire Renewal Plan in order to renew a maximum of 240,000 tires throughout the national territory with a maximum amount of resources to the program of 4.8 million euros.

In the Region are discarded each year more than 12,000 tons of tires.

Murcia was the second city of Spain after Madrid, to use recycled asphalt from the tires.

So when they renewed the Avenida Juan Carlos I after the introduction of trams used the latest technological innovation in urban firm to be obtained from the recycling of used tires accumulated in landfills.

This asphalt, in addition to recycling, minimizing the noise impact caused by rolling traffic, reducing noise by 40 percent and provides greater driving safety, both on dry and wet handling, more grip and comfort.

To pave the Avenida Juan Carlos I, we used 10,000 tonnes of this pavement.
