- Assessment of environmental criteria in contracts 20% of supplies, services, consultancy or technical assistance, and 10% for works contracts.

Later, through the Local Energy Plan, included other aspects of sustainability as:

- Criteria for energy efficiency and integration into the landscape, for the award of photovoltaic

- Environmental Standards in the technical specifications for the acquisition of computer equipment (EPA Energy Star)

- Switching to LED technology in lighting and gardens of the town lights.

- Specifications in new vehicles of different municipal services, technology and hybrid electric vehicles.

With Project CVAM criteria have been adopted in the sustainable procurement of works and supply contracts of the City of Murcia, managed to increase awareness and participation of suppliers in terms of sustainability.

The main benefits are: a cost savings of 600,000 euros in public lighting, energy saving 15,983 MWh in lighting and traffic lights, reducing emissions of 7912 tons CO2 per year, saving natural resources, for example with the use of recycled materials in filling tree pits, increasing environmental certifications, quality improvement and adoption of environmental criteria for the providers, participation in European programs (such as PRO-EE), to exchange experiences with other cities, various public recognition and Prizes awarded to the City, as the award "City of Forests", presented by WWF Spain, or "Energy Award", awarded by the Ministry of Universities, Business and Research.

As a commitment to continuous improvement, is currently developing the "Green Purchasing Manual of the City of Murcia", which will include measures and environmental criteria to incorporate in the contracts.

The award "Sustainable Chain 'organized by the Foundation CEMEX Spain, Unidad Editorial and IE Business School seeks to recognize those institutions that stand out for the implementation of sustainability plans that include the promotion and development of these practices in their supply chain value, multiplying their efforts but also results.
