- Assessment of environmental criteria by 20% in contracts for supplies, services, consultancy or technical assistance, and 10% for works contracts.

Subsequently, through the Local Energy Plan, included other aspects of sustainability as:

- Criteria for energy efficiency and integration into the landscape, for the award of photovoltaic

- Environmental standards in the technical specifications for purchase of computer equipment (EPA Energy Star)

- Switching to LED technology in lighting the town gardens and lights.

- Technical specifications on new vehicles of different municipal services, technology and hybrid electric vehicles.

With the draft criteria have been adopted CVAM sustainable procurement in contracts for works and supply the City of Murcia, succeeding in increasing awareness and participation of suppliers in terms of sustainability.

The main benefits are: Economic savings of 600,000 euros in public lighting, 15,983 MWh Energy savings in lighting and traffic lights, reducing emissions of 7912 tons CO2 per year, saving natural resources, such as using recycled materials filling tree pits, increasing environmental certifications, quality improvement and adoption of environmental criteria by the suppliers, participation in European programs (such as PRO-EE), to exchange experiences with other cities, various public recognition and Prizes awarded to the City, as the award "City of Forests", presented by WWF Spain, or "Energy Award", awarded by the Ministry of Universities, Business and Research.

As a commitment to continuous improvement, is currently developing the "Green Procurement Manual of the City of Murcia, which will include measures and environmental criteria to incorporate in the contracts.

The award "Sustainable Chain 'organized by the CEMEX Foundation of Spain, the Editorial and IE Business School, seeks to recognize those institutions that stand out for the implementation of sustainability plans that include the promotion and development of these practices in its supply chain value, thus multiplying their efforts but also their results.
