Students play with light and renewable energy

"Chemistry: Our Life, Our Future" is the title of Science Camp III organized by the International Sea-Campus Mare Nostrum, which will run from 27 June to 1 July.

During those five days of fourth grade students of ESO and Bachillerato first coexist in the environment Carrascoy Regional Park, where he held a series of activities and workshops that will allow them to approach science from a recreational perspective.

Coinciding with the centenary of the Nobel Prize awarded to Marie Curie, the UN has proclaimed 2011 as International Year of Chemistry to educate the public about the crucial contributions of space science to the welfare of humanity and its achievements in improving the sustainability of our lifestyles and solve problems such essentials as food, water, health, energy or transportation.

The camp is an initiative in which the lectures have been replaced by interactive workshops, visits, games, beach, pool ... to show the science more fun for students.

According to its makers, is "a unique opportunity to reflect and discover how science can be used as a key tool for improving the sustainability of our lifestyles and to address global problems of humanity as essential food, water, health, energy or transportation. "

To Asuncion Maria Hidalgo Montesinos, head of the course, "the initiative aims to interest young people in acquiring a scientific culture, promote habits of work in the scientific method, bringing science, particularly chemistry through everyday phenomena and stimulate possible careers in science. "

Playing with light and renewable energy

A course in which boredom is strictly prohibited.

To do so, officials offer various workshops, such as Lighten playing with light, mathematical games, forensic entomology, distillation of natural oils, astronomy, renewable energy design and manufacture of various devices of wind.

The closing conference will be held in the auditorium of the Faculty of Chemistry and will be headed by José Antonio Lozano Teruel, Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Murcia.

The course will be held in various parts of the University of Murcia and CEMACAM Torre Guil, and has covered its 25 seats from the first days of being open enrollment.
