Scientists at the University of Murcia evaluate a new system for wastewater treatment (07/06/2011)

Scientists at the University of Murcia, led by the director of the Department of Agricultural Chemistry, Luis Almela, evaluate a new system of wastewater treatment on an experimental basis will be carried out in a house located in Elche.

The project was presented today at the building Convalescence occasion of signing the contract for technology support agreement between the educational institution and the company "Millennium III Ecoagua, SA."

The project, which will last twelve months, will analyze and test the new system and compliance with emission limit values ​​set for wastewater.

Housing has been chosen because they were located in an area considered vulnerable with respect to pollution by nitrates from agricultural areas.

The study involves taking samples periodically to determine the index of metals, fecal coliform, nitrates and nitrites, suspended solids and detergents, among others.

After the signing, the manager of the company, Roque Aledo, has indicated that the system will have Canadian technology and that it is part of the concern of this firm respect for the environment.

For its part, the rector, José Antonio Cobacho, highlighted "the research potential available to the University" and has appealed to promote closer ties between academia and business.

The project has been reviewed by Luis Almela and the director of the TTO, Antonio Montes.
