Mayor House made public the agreement with Gas Natural Group to install the first point of supply of this fuel for vehicles in the region.

The waste collection service will be the first to use compressed natural gas in its fleet, although there are other companies interested in joining.

Bet of the City Council to implement a model for sustainable mobility, efficient and less polluting in Murcia no going back.

In contrast, consistently and decisively incorporate new measures that strengthen this commitment.

The Mayor, Miguel Ángel Cámara, this morning's latest initiative that has driven in this regard.

This is the agreement with Gas Natural Group that will allow the municipality has a load supply point for vehicles with this fuel-considered the most respectful of the environment, which will be the first in the region and could be operational in within 6 months.

The measure includes the joint study of the amount and location of supply points, so you should design a cargo net and acquisition of equipment and installation thereof in public spaces.

Thus, Murcia takes the first steps to promote mobility by compressed natural gas in the city, beginning with the installation of this point of delivery, which was located in Alta.

Shall be public and the first vehicles to use alternative fuel fleet will be solid waste collection.

Specifically, 29 units providing this service will have the opportunity to develop the first demonstration phase and pave the way for other companies.

In fact, some companies with large fleets have been directed to City Hall to show their interest in the project.

In a medium-term future also opens the possibility of supplying compressed natural gas buses also public transport, as already happens in other cities such as Madrid or Barcelona.

A clean fuel

Compressed natural gas is considered a clean fuel and therefore more respectful of the environment than petroleum, as it reduces CO2 emissions by up to 30%, is lead and traces of heavy metals, no emitted particles in suspension or sulfur dioxide, greatly reduced emissions of nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons and generates lower levels of noise and vibration of diesel engines.

For Cespa fleet, the specifications that governed the award of service and included the use of clean fuels and / or renewables such as biofuels, natural gas and hybrid vehicles and / or electrical in order to find a greater sustainability in line with the mobility model chosen for the municipality.

With this decision, Murcia save 1,868 Teq CO2 per year, compared to the pollution that would result if he had chosen the current diesel engines.

A collection vehicle diesel fuel emits about 280 tons of CO2 per year, while if compressed natural gas supplies is reduced by 70 tonnes per year less, which implies a decrease of 25%.

The addition of compressed natural gas mobility in the municipality of Murcia is in addition to other initiatives launched earlier that also aim to help design a more environmentally friendly and more combative with the effects of climate change.

"We work to build a better Murcia from the environmental viewpoint and the way to achieve can only go to small but continuous steps without losing the pace and we present today is one of them," said House.
