Mayor House introduced an initiative sponsored by the Government to convert the Waste Management Centre of Cañada Hermosa in a new area of innovation and opportunity.

The Cluster Reference Environment and Renewable Energy will occupy a similar extension to 128 football fields and will have capacity to house 300 companies

Develop a clear environmental efficiency initiative, to help strengthen the municipality's economic activity, encourage technological innovation and, above all, promote job creation, more so in conjunction with the most serious crisis in recent history, "are the main consequences that will result in the creation of a cluster Murcia reference in Environment and Renewable Energy.

The City Council, in partnership with grass-concessionaire of street cleaning and garbage collection-driving a new area of economic activity at the same time, it implies a commitment to a new employment project that will transform the current Waste Treatment Center a new area of innovation and opportunity.

The goal is to make Cañada Hermosa and the whole area dedicated to landfill by intelligent territory, a new pole of economic growth, social and employment and at the same time, a world leader in research, development and innovation in environment and renewable energy.

With an estimated investment of over EUR 100 million and create about 4,300 direct and indirect jobs, "the gestation of this business group, which would bring together nearly 300 industries, occupy an area of 100 hectares, an area equivalent to more than 125 football fields.

The benefit is in home

It will accommodate three types of industries.

On the one hand, dedicated to recycling waste and manufacturing byproducts.

In this area are the companies linked to the treatment of plastic, paper or glass, Murcia currently separately collected but the process and get use out of Murcia.

In the future, will correct this situation and the economic benefit will the municipality.

But also fit the waste companies that are not addressed, such as waste arriving at the eco-park (oils, batteries, fluorescent X-rays, etc.)..

Third, the cluster will provide an ideal location for certain industries which by their activity, have difficulty finding a suitable location.

The way of managing this "Recycle City" would be similar to that in Citmusa, where the City plays the role of facilitator and mediator of wills and projects but where private initiative plays a role.

The resources are multiplied by three

The germ of the main actors of the project was the Town Hall lawn and the service operating company, which submitted a bid in this direction recently awarded in the competition.

In that first moment it was investing 6.5 million euros from the company and an area of 37 hectares.

The excellent response by the industries, together with the interest of local government for projects to promote efficient environmental standpoint, and would imply the creation of jobs, has led to increased expectations and triple the size of project.

Thus, the estimated investment amounts to more than 100 million euros, while the initial surface, under 37 hectares, increasing to 100, providing capacity for about 300 companies.

The cluster will have 8 different areas: industrial, business, R & D + I (research laboratories), academic conference building-hotel residence, plant selection of Waste Electrical and Electronic, water purification and energy recovery zone -biomass plants.

A power plant

Moreover, the "Recycle City" is, in itself, a factory because it is self-sufficient energy through renewable sources: Gas generated in the very center, solar energy through solar panels and blankets will be installed and wind through windmills.

At the same time, the center will export electricity to what it considers the construction of a new line since there is currently insufficient.
