The City publishes a book / CD to transmit sound and cultural heritage of the municipality (18/04/2011)

The publication includes a study on the meaning of the sounds of tradition in the Municipality of Murcia, by Tomás García Martínez and María Luján Ortega

In order to continue bringing the cultural heritage of the municipality of Murcia to the citizens, the City of Murcia has published a book containing records from 1973 to 2010, drawing from the research followed by Tomás García Martínez and María Luján Ortega around the culture of oral transmission and sounds that surround us as a collective soul.

This is an edition that includes 47 sound recordings that run from the verses of souls, through the ballads, nursery rhymes and musical repertoire, distinguishing between what are voice recordings and recordings accompanied by instruments.

La Huerta de Murcia is a living space, ethnographic and anthropological in transformation.

Therefore, the making of this record-book means the accomplishment of a project that fosters intergenerational relationships, giving prominence to older people familiar with our tradition, enabling the sharing of resources and knowledge with young children, getting an individual benefit and community.

To this end, the book / CD will be distributed by local public schools, libraries, cultural centers, and other academic and educational institutions related to the study of anthropology.

Besides the work of collecting music and sound records, the book includes a study on the meaning of the sounds of tradition in the municipality of Murcia by Tomás García Martínez and María Luján Ortega, in addition to covering a wide range of ideas and conclusions about the existence of this heritage that could be considered immaterial.

All aspects including work are segmented along the lines of the disc.

For the publication will also have a significant visual richness, the artist Moses Yagües (Molina de Segura 1974) has done some illustrations (14) that dignify, from cover to cover the various oral and musical expressions with a deeper insight on deep character that brings to mind, and hence to knowledge, the object of the publication.

These images have been made using traditional techniques, dry point etching and engraving, but with more modern media such as PVC.

1,000 books have been printed-format discs closed, bound in hardcover, which will be widely disseminated educational and professional media.
