The University of Murcia implement austerity measures after suffering a cut of 21 million euros (14/04/2011)

The team rector of the University of Murcia has informed the Governing Council of the implementation of austerity measures does not improve the economic situation, because in less than a year, this institution has been cut by 21 million euros funds received from the region.

In a report to the Council by the Vice Chancellor for Economic and Infrastructure, Antonio Calvo-Flores, indicates that in 2010 the University recorded a reduction of the Community funding of 7.2 million euros, which in 2011 exceeded 24 million euros.

In this reduction we must add the retailers that have occurred in the funds received for Erasmus grants and subsidies and specific research, as well as provide for a deficit on the campus of Lorca half a million euros and need a million euros for the School of Nursing at Cartagena.

Calvo-Flores also noted that in the first three months of the current fiscal year, the University has paid 27 million euros more than it received.

Calvo-Flores also stated that "works in progress continue until completion, will not suffer any paralysis, but will undertake no new ones."

Within saving measures implemented since the last course, now during the Easter and Spring Festival, the University repeated saving measures and optimization of resources, spending, among other actions, by the closure of sites and services and the concentration of others in the same space.
