"After 25 years of diplomatic relations, there are still some stereotypes" (07/04/2011)

The Israeli diplomat has spoken out today in Spain 'conference UCAM-Israel 25 years of reunion'

"After 25 years of diplomatic relations between Spain and Israel, there are still some stereotypes", as declared this morning in San Antonio Catholic University, journalist and spokesperson for the Israel Embassy in Spain, Lior Haiat.

The diplomat has given a lecture entitled 'Spain-Israel 25 years of reunion' in the context of the Israeli Cultural Week, held in the UCAM from 6 to 12 April.

Haiat stressed the importance of image when selling a brand or country and assured that "selling Israel's image is more complicated than selling Coca Cola."

Haiat Lior started his speech with an interpellation addressed to the audience: What are the images of Israel that are not in the Media.

Haiat said about the press in Spain often rely on stereotypical images in conveying the news about Israel, which prevents the Spanish to acquire adequate knowledge of the reality of the country.

"When it comes to Israel in the media often use images of soldiers or ultra-Orthodox Jews, which transmits a worrying negative image of conflict, alienation, bigotry, theocracy and extremism, which is not real and arouses desire not to visit country. "

The diplomat has called for display and convey real and positive images of Israel, it reflects the real reality as a modern, liberal, democratic and full of tourist attractions, and highlighted the major presence of women in society, politics and Israeli culture.

It has also suggested a wider dissemination of this image in the Spanish media.
