The Government of Spain declares Murcia Easter Fiesta of International Tourist Interest " (05/04/2011)

The government delegate in the Region of Murcia, Rafael González Tovar, announced this morning the Supreme council of Murcia guilds that the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade has declared Murcia Easter Fiesta of International Tourist Interest.

Tovar Gonzalez expressed his satisfaction with this well deserved distinction, which occurred in half the time planned, just a month since the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade received the dossier prepared by the City Council of Guilds Superior.

He noted that "the Government of Spain has been sensitive to a unanimous request of the residents of Murcia, demonstrating a clear and strong support to parties and cultural traditions of the municipality."

He also stressed the importance of the statement occurs before the celebration of Easter this year, the broadcast will be signing and the marking of internationality acquired from now.

"La Semana Santa de Murcia meets all the requirements for this recognition because it is a public event in which converge the beauty of Baroque religious images, the richness and color of their seats, the spectacular parades and religious fervor" he said.

"By this statement our Easter get a significant boost for all those people who are interested in knowing the most genuine and engaging as many holidays are celebrated in our country," he added.

On the other hand, has congratulated the Superior City Council of Guilds for full and impeccable work that has been developed over nearly three years to get this qualification.

The Government delegate pointed out that this recognition adds to the already obtained, such as Holy Week in Lorca and Cartagena, the Fiestas de la Santisima y Vera Cruz de Caravaca, the Festival del Cante de las Minas de La Union and Burial of the sardine in Murcia (Murcia Spring Festival).

All have been recognized as International Tourist Interest by the Government of Spain since 2004, coinciding with the Government of José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero.

He also mentioned other events in the region who have recently received the distinction of National Tourist Interest Party, as the Feast of the crews Barranda and Night of the Drums of Mula and the importance this has had on their dissemination and increased visitors.

Requirements for declaration

Is an honorary distinction given to "those events that involve expressions of cultural values ​​and popular tradition, with particular regard to their ethnic characteristics and that have special importance as a tourist attraction."

Among the requirements are the age of its celebration, its continuity in time, the permanence and civic participation, their relevance to the promotion of tourism in Spain on the outside, the existence of sufficient accommodation and tourist services or the originality and diversity of acts performed.

In addition, you must have previous declaration of National Tourist Interest and support of the full City Council of Murcia and Autonomous Region.
