The Governing Board has approved this morning the extension of the cooperation agreement signed between both institutions
Municipal Health Services of the Municipality of Murcia includes among its strategic interventions for the promotion and protection of health food and nutrition, which is currently being developed through the Comprehensive Plan to promote healthy eating and physical activity.
The Governing Board gave the green light to the extension of the collaboration agreement signed with the University of Murcia.
Murcia City Council joined in 2005 the "Declaration of Santander" by the Federation of Municipalities and the Ministry of Health adopted the National Strategy NAOS (Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity Prevention.)
For the development of these activities we have a multidisciplinary team of specialists in public health.
According to available epidemiological data, Murcia has a prevalence of overweight among the highest in Spain, and consumer surveys indicate a clear departure from the Mediterranean dietary pattern, so it is important to pay particular attention to nutritional risk groups such as children and youth and the elderly and dependent.
The sensory aspects of the menus have shown decisive in the acceptance of meals, so they are decisive in maintaining a proper nutritional status.
As each day more numerous social catering services, both in dining and delayed, hired by the city of Murcia from various Councillors, and in our actions in the area of ​​coordination and collaboration, we participated in the joint committees for development and evaluation of the administrative requirements of these concessions, it is necessary to have a proper methodology and means for monitoring and evaluating health hygiene, nutritional and sensory quality of these services.
The result of the work is the development of standardized tools to enable us to standardize and improve the quality of our services and which are applicable to fields as diverse as school cafeterias, kindergartens, social service centers, camps, leisure, catering home, etc.
To that effect, signed a collaboration agreement with the University of Murcia, Department of Food Technology, Nutrition and Food Science, in order to obtain the scientific and technical support to the Group's experience of Nutrition and Food Research can contribute to development of this work.
Once in force, is proposed for extension to complete the work for submission and scientific communication.
The objectives pursued by the current agreement are:
- Carry out a quality program of school cafeterias.
Conduct the evaluation and monitoring of sensory quality, nutritional and health of the meals served to groups of dependent risk of the municipality of Murcia.
- Determine the quality requirements and develop evaluation indicators to provide menus, and the conditions to be met by the companies to offer a catering service safe and consistent with the characteristics of a healthy diet and acceptable.
- Establish a sensory evaluation methodology that enables the inclusion in the contract documents of this as a requirement more objectified in the marking scale, so contributes to the choice of most optimal menus in schools and / or community .
- Identify and assess problems related to food that may exist in the different groups that are users of some form of restoration maintained by the city of Murcia.
- Provide new materials, a tool bench to provide support to all stakeholders for optimal operation of concessions, worth menus for different groups, educational materials for health, etc.
- Design, organize, implement and evaluate nutrition education programs geared toward the school environment, risk groups and general population, to complement the other activities.
