Researchers can consult a website about 515,000 pages of documents, books and newspapers since the thirteenth century until 1981

Researchers and Murcia are in luck.

The municipal archive goes out with a new website which will be available around 515,000 pages of documents, books and newspapers since the thirteenth century until 1981.

The web www.archivodemurcia.es offers researchers and interested citizens most of the information contained in the special collections of documents from the archive, many of them digitized.

The page is divided into three sections, which correspond to the original funding organization, Archive, Library and Newspaper Library.

In each of these sections provides information on the documents kept in the Municipal Archives also indicating that funds have been digitized in each of them.

The Archive is the most important section for its content and its volume.

Is the memory of the institution since the thirteenth century, when the conquest of the city by Alfonso X the Wise to the XXI century.

In 2005 began the digitization of all the medieval documents of the thirteenth and fifteenth centuries, which led to the reproduction of 62,577 pages.

In 2006, she continued this work with the books of Chapter Acts of the sixteenth century, playing about 100 books with a total of 42,436 pages, and in 2007, 61,545 pages were digitized books for Chapter Acts of the seventeenth century, which makes an overall total of 166,558 pages.

All this work was performed under the Project Crimson, through agreements with the Autonomous Community of Murcia.

The Library, essential complement to the Archive has a collection of works of author, printer and related topic Murcia, which makes it a focal point for studies of Murcia or Murcia.

The volume of work exceeds 18,000 and the chronological period covered runs from the fifteenth to the twentieth century.

In 2008 began the process of scanning and at present a total of 731 digitized books of the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries, involving more than 132,000 pages.

The Newspaper Library newspaper collection preserves the oldest and most complete known until now for newspapers and magazines published in Murcia.

His oldest specimens date back to 1792 and are continued over the last two centuries.

Not only are the newspapers published in Murcia but also those published in other cities such as Cartagena, Lorca, Cieza ...

The ongoing review of their copies and interest of the City Council to prevent damage and facilitate their access, made in 2002 began the Draft Digitizing Historical Press.

From that date until 2010, 242 titles have been digitized with a total of 1,129,947 pages.

Thus, the website is going to publish all titles that allow copyright law, amounting to 216,357 pages.

Access to such familiar titles as La Paz de Murcia (1858-1895), El Diario de Murcia (1879-1903), The Liberal de Murcia (1902-1939) El Tiempo (1908-1938) and La Verdad de Murcia (1903 -1931), represent a special appeal not only to researchers but also to Murcia citizens wishing to recover or view these pages.
