Murcia awarded between 2221 cities across Europe for its organization in the European Mobility Week (21/03/2011)

Murcia still receive a prize related to environment and sustainable mobility.

Last week the European Commission in Brussels gave awards to the European Mobility Week 2010 in Murcia which has been awarded between 2221 cities across Europe for its organization in the European Mobility Week.

Thus, Murcia is among the three cities that have received a higher score than the European Commission presented the Award to the European Mobility Week 2010 at the city of Almada in Portugal followed by Murcia and Riga in Latvia

With this nomination, Murcia is again selected for the third consecutive year among the ten best cities to qualify for the award

In this edition of the EMW 2010 was presented 2,221 European cities, making this award one of the most competitive in Europe.

In the Mobility Week in Murcia were held more than a score of activities, organized by the Department of Environment and Urban Quality through ALEM, the Local Agency for Energy and Climate Change in collaboration with other councils.

Under the theme 'Mobility, health and safety: You move with intelligence and better lives', the media sought to promote sustainable mobility and promoting physical activity.

In the various activities included contests, prizes, free workshops tuning bikes, outdoor sports classes to monitor, free health screenings, education, parks and road games.

Leveraging the organization of this event, has organized a series of workshops and conferences to cities on how to get the best results in the organization of the European Mobility Week.

Also was encouraged sharing for mutual learning of cities in this area.

In addition, there have been a series of working sessions in which European cities and private companies will talk about sustainable mobility and public transport, flexibility in work plans drivers of cycling as a means of transport or on how to maximize sustainable organization of large events with few resources.

Remember that the City Council conducted, in addition to these specific actions, other permanent measures for the same purpose, such as the Sustainable Mobility Plan and the Bicycle Master Plan, through which encourage road network cycling trails, the bicycle parking, the park and ride car, intermodal, or improvements
