Pedro López: "The people of El Palmar are fed up suffer discrimination" (15/03/2011)

The socialist candidate for mayor of Murcia, Pedro López, yesterday visited the hamlet of El Palmar, where he met with several neighborhood groups in a new edition of the Citizen Encounters, held in the library Pelagius Ferrer.

So he returned to see how in the neighboring municipality remain first and second category according to their place of residence.

Lopez said that the residents of El Palmar are tired of the continuing discrimination suffered by the City of Murcia and are encouraging a strong segregationist sentiment in the district.

It is not acceptable, has said the Socialist candidate, than a hamlet with a population exceeding 22,000 inhabitants, is not used for the Municipal Board the amount of 400,000 euros, while a city like Las Torres de Cotillas, with a number similar people, manages a budget of 30 million euros, of which 11.8 are for investment.

During his visit, Pedro López personally received complaints over the hamlet, who demand more space for their community center and the construction of some tracks to play bocce in the garden nearby.

The socialist candidate also lamented the cultural deficit suffered by the hamlet, with a municipal library in poor condition, with no wheelchair access and insufficient for a population as El Palmar, and the little value given to the Theatre Bernal, closed weekdays, so can not be used, after hours formal representations by neighbors and associations.
