Murcia celebrates first World Day of Poetry (02/03/2011)

On 21 March, Ramón Gaya Museum hosts the fourteen hours uninterrupted reading of poems and writings of Soren Peñalver and his favorite poets

Murcia and the Museum Ramón Gaya join for the first time, the celebration of World Poetry Day and premiered a reading activity continued in the Plaza Santa Catalina, as that has been held for eleven consecutive years to commemorate the Book Day.

For the premiere of this activity has picked the continued reading of poems and texts by Soren Peñalver and their favorite poets.

From 10 am to 12 pm, all who wish may contribute to this tribute to Soren Peñalver and poetry, participating in the reading of poems and fragments of texts on poetry.

Among Soren favorite writers whose works Peñalver and read the next day March 21, include Homer, Virgil, Dante, Garcilaso de la Vega, Fray Luis de León, San Juan de la Cruz, Charles Baudelaire, Paul Claudel, Konstantinos Cavafy , Pier Paolo Pasolini, Fernando Pessoa, Rabindranath Tagore, Jorge Luis Borges, Octavio Paz, Miguel Hernandez, Luis Cernuda ...

The museum sent a letter to all who have participated in previous editions of World Book Day to offer help on this occasion.

Unesco chose March 21 as World Poetry Day, to "encourage support for poets, back to the enchantment of orality and re-establish dialogue between poetry and other arts" as well as make "poetic art is not considered an art fallen into disuse, but a tool that enables society to regain and assert its identity."
