The autonomous region has five centers to develop measures not involving deprivation of liberty

A total of 44 children with a mean age of 17 years remain in the youth school 'The Mulberry' in Murcia, where he met a judicial detention in open, semi-closed and participate in regional government programs intended to rehabilitation and training, with the aim of promoting socio-reintegration.

Of the 44 young Murcia placed in 'The Mulberry', 23 met their stay in semi-open, so they reside in the center but do outside the training activities, educational, work and leisure, ten minors are judicial measures closed system, and ten young people in open prisons, and another receives therapeutic care.

The center, which has 46 seats, has this year with an investment of the Ministry of Justice and Public Safety, through the General Directorate for Prevention of Violence and Juvenile Reform of 3,523,247 euros, thereby giving Reply to comply with court decisions imposed by the Juvenile Court of Murcia in open, semi-closed.

More than 700 children treated since 2001

Youth Education Center 'The Mulberry' has served a total of 700 children, of whom 90 percent were men, since it opened its doors in 2000, but began to accommodate children with different sizes from January 2001.

A team of 70 professionals serving children, including psychologists, social workers, doctors, psychiatrists, which must be added the faculty, security and service.

'The Mulberry', located on a parcel of 16,000 square meters, has an observation area, another juvenile detention in open and semi-open and a young adults in a closed regime.

It also has three sports courts, gym, classrooms, workshop, patio, dining room, bedrooms and living rooms, among others.

Currently, the Community has five teams for the implementation of legal measures in children, and five others to develop non-custodial measures in the municipalities of Murcia, Cartagena, Lorca, Jumilla and Caravaca.
