Learning to live with the tram (21/02/2011)

The Department of Safety and Traffic and Murcia tram continue working for Murcia learn to live with the tram.

If you are already taking action to drivers, now is the time for pedestrians.

The arrival of the tram line 1 marks a change in the physiognomy of the municipality and the creation of new elements to the Murcia have to adapt.

Thus, during the about 18 km route for Line 1 have 89 crosswalks.

Of these, 61 are waiting area, bounded by gray tile in most of them and stopping is no problem in "the zone".

In contrast, the remaining 28, the characteristics of urban roads, could not be expected to enable this area and therefore should not stand in the pedestrian because he would never invade the platform reserved for the movement of the tram.

These crosswalks without waiting area, the pedestrian can see the "Aspe in the pavement," indicating that it is not a suitable place to stand or wait.

It is important to stress this because during the construction period pedestrians have become accustomed to expect in the middle lane, but now with the tram service this behavior is similar to the pedestrian was waiting on a traffic lane to cross the other lanes.

For this and for maximum ease pedestrian crossing, they will install a total of 22 timers with audible warning for pedestrians to know the time remaining to finish all the road crossing to the other side.

As mentioned, the road marking all crosswalks be strengthened by painting a "grid bias" yellow lines with the words 'Caution Tram' which warns of the impossibility of invading the area.

In the steps where there waiting area is indicated by an inscription.

The main areas where these crossings are located are:

- Zona Juan de Borbon, 18 pedestrian crossings, all with waiting area.

- Zona Levante Round Three pedestrian crossings with waiting area and three without waiting area

- Zona Juan Carlos I.

16 steps to the waiting area and two without waiting area.

- Terra Natura Area: Two with waiting area and three without it.

- Perimeter Universidad de Murcia: Seven with waiting area and fifteen without waiting area.
