HUERMUR Volunteers cleaned the ditch Aljufía in the vicinity of Mill Four-Wheel (20/02/2011)

A dozen volunteers of all ages have participated in this action field in the hamlet of La Albatalía.

This historic mill valuable ethnographic and protected by the General Urban Plan of Murcia, has been abandoned and filled with garbage and debris, as well as the ditch quijeros more Aljufía, where the Board of Landowners have a lot of debris left after a few repairs to a wall.

HUERMUR continues with the development of activities in defense of the garden of Murcia and water heritage, and this line has developed during the morning training, volunteering to clean up the Mill Four-Wheel or Funes situated in the hamlet of The Albatalía, and report the state of conservation of historic irrigation network.

The volunteers have also cleared some sections of the ditch Quijera Aljufía higher in the surroundings of the mill and planted native riparian trees (aspen and poplar) in order to regenerate the area scenically.

With this action HUERMUR wants to protest for the negligence of the Board of Landowners and the city of Murcia on water heritage, as a tiny surface were collected a dozen bags of trash.

This degradation leads many people take advantage of these places to throw debris and garbage, giving an unfortunate image of the garden of Murcia.

Also, within the channel of the ditch collects large amount of garbage without the Board of Landowners meet one of his tasks is to keep the channels clean.

This mill was one of the assets that HUERMUR proposed restoring the Department of Fine Arts and Cultural Heritage, for which presented a project to restore the mill and its surroundings.

This project was put on hold due to lack of regional government funding and poor initiative and support of Sigifredo Hernandez, outgoing president of the Board of Landowners.

Now HUERMUR wanted to clean up this mill to be included in a route that is being drafted to join the Contraparada Murcia following the course of the historic canal of Aljufía, built in the tenth century to provide irrigation to the northern part of the garden and bring water to the city of Murcia.

During the action, which has been carried out for several hours, many residents, walkers and cyclists have come to learn of the action and congratulate the volunteers for this cleanup, except an officer of the Board of Landowners in a initially tried to hinder this work, but ultimately has coincided with the volunteers, who were mostly irrigators, that things should change in the Board of Landowners.

The new candidate to the Board of Landowners and HUERMUR spokesman, Pedro Fernandez, said that "we will not cease in our efforts to preserve and irrigation network and its valuable assets" and "the Board can no longer Planters maintaining this abandonment and neglect of the canals, and converting them into manure, because that charge all huertanos some receipts each year are older. "

It has also indicated that "have to do their job cleaning and maintaining these historic waterways, and also promote the restoration to be known by citizens and proudly display to visitors."

Quite the opposite of what should be done, HUERMUR proved how vegetation has been destroyed Quijera a stretch of the ditch, leaving the Board of Landowners abandoned lot of debris due to the repair of a wall.

This new wall, rather than be built with masonry like the rest has been raised with concrete blocks, showing once again the absolute insensitivity towards heritage conservation.

Fernández stated that "the forms of Sigifredo are not adequate to restore our irrigation system as a cultural value, but rather look like someone stuck in the past, which seems to appreciate this well and therefore is unable to follow a minute in front of an institution that contains a Intangible Heritage of Humanity, such as the Council of Good Men.
