Declared BIC archaeological remains from the site of St. Stephen in Murcia (17/02/2011)

The regional government has declared of Cultural Interest Area category Archaeological remains for the site located in the garden of San Esteban de Murcia.

The archaeological remains belong to an occupation of the late eleventh century, whose progressive development reached its highest density two centuries later.

The population growth experienced in the area caused the expansion of urban area in this suburb, known as New Arrixaca, originally constituted, according to studies, a space formed by large residential areas and gardens and orchards.

The final conclusion of the old urban area suburbs and the characteristic patterns of Islam.

So far there have been about 60 homes and a series of enclosures with larger central patio connected to a network of orthogonal streets.

This statement as a Cultural features favorable reports from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Santa Maria de la Arrixaca, the Real Academia Alfonso X el Sabio and the College of Architects.
