The socialist candidate for mayor of Murcia, Pedro López, made this morning a review of the budgets of the Municipality of Murcia for the year 2011 to "contribute to deepening inequalities experienced by neighborhoods and districts."
After analyzing the various items, Pedro López emphasis that "this year has dropped more than half the estimated expenditure of the Municipal Boards of neighborhoods and districts from 16.4 million in 2010 to 7,630,000 in 2011.
In addition, investments for the Municipal Councils falling to virtually disappear when 2.4 million last year exceeded 11 million.
For the Socialist candidate, "These financial projections assume strangle the operation of the Municipal Councils, which were designed to advance decentralization and that during the PP government bodies have become unable to meet the needs of the neighbors."
Against these budgets unsupportive, Pedro Lopez has announced that "since the amendment has raised a 19 million increase in funds intended for the Municipal Councils of the neighborhoods and districts (5.1 to Neighborhood Boards and 13.9 for Boards Pedanías) to comply with the Rules of Participation and District requiring earmark 8% of the budget to districts, since the current forecast is less than 1.8%. "
Moreover, the Socialist candidate for Mayor of Murcia, has also lamented the "no citizen participation in municipal budgeting, which have been developed exclusively by the Popular Party without listening to the contributions that could have made the citizens, associations and other political groups especially in a difficult time where the priority from the City should be leading the economic recovery of the city. "
In his view, Lopez commitment to "the introduction of participatory budgeting involving a real citizen involvement in public life and improve the democratic health of our municipality."
