Murcia is one of three European cities worth the prize of the European Mobility Week 2010 (01/02/2011)

Murcia is located between the three cities that have received a higher score, along with Almada, Portugal, and Riga, Latvia, to qualify for the award of the European Mobility Week 2010, SEM 2010 / European Mobility Week, EMW 2010 .

In this edition of the SEM 2010 was presented 2,221 European cities, making this award one of the most competitive in Europe.

The jury of the SEM 2010, which rewards the actions carried out by local authorities in sustainable mobility during the European Mobility Week, met on 18 January in Brussels and identify the ten cities that most scores been obtained for the prize 2010 and the three highest value obtained in this edition.

The other seven of the ten shortlisted cities are: Budapest (Hungary), Eindhoven (Netherlands), León (Spain), Östersund (Sweden), Reutte (Austria) and Zagreb (Croatia) and Gävle (Sweden), which won the city it SEM prize in the 2009 edition.

With this nomination, Murcia is again selected for the third consecutive year among the ten best cities to qualify for the award.

The winning city will be announced at an official ceremony to be held at the Atomium in Brussels on March 14, 2011.

In the SEM, held from 16 to 22 September in Murcia were carried out more than a score of activities organized by the Department of Environment and Urban Quality through ALEM, the Local Agency for Energy and Climate Change Murcia and in collaboration with other councils, and numerous companies and associations.

Under the theme 'Mobility, health and safety:' Move with intelligence and better lives', the media sought to promote sustainable mobility and promoting physical activity to improve health and environmental improvement.

Among the many and varied activities included organized several contests, prizes, free workshops on development of bicycles, outdoor sports classes to monitor, free health screenings, education, parks and road games to raise awareness.

The most remarkable Mobility Week 2010 was the launch of the bike rental facilities and public opening of the Municipal Office of the Bicycle.

Activities include organized a casting for a role model in the video - the presentation of the Municipal Office of the Bicycle, and being part of the integrated marketing campaign for it.

Once again launched the Solidarity bus that toured various strategic points of the municipality collecting more than 1,480 kilos of clothes, food and miscellaneous items that were given to Jesus Forsaken.

In addition, during nine days, was installed information booth in the Plaza de Santo Domingo in the activities were centralized and disseminated information about mobility programs and events.

There was also a school drawing competition in the entire municipality whose theme was "The Bicycle".

The winners of the children's drawing contest were rewarded for their creativity and artistic ability.

In addition to winning the first 12 drawings has developed an original 2011 calendar.

Another activity was a competition bike tuneadas, which is awarded for originality.

Also awarded to citizens who were moving in a sustainable manner through Sustainable Mobility Survey, a campaign that was called "Orange Lemon Prize."

Another innovation was the completion of medical examinations of the hand of Sanitas, which provided all necessary advice to improve the health of citizens at the same time it fostered a more sustainable mobility.

Sports centers and JC1 Fleet encouraged to get fit Murcia with free lessons outdoor aerobics and pilates, which were fostered health criteria and sustainable mobility.

Workshops are also organized by HC Power advocacy Energy and Clean Energy and the Office of the Bicycle.

In addition, bicycle owners were able to attend free workshops on development of vehicles on the street.

Finally, we celebrated the European Day Without Cars and Patiño Murcia school could participate in the Kids Park Driver Education.

Recall that in 2008 held for the first time the SEM, where Murcia took first place among the Spanish cities, and also ranked as the fourth European city from 2108 participating cities.

In the 2009 edition, with the participation of 2,181 cities, Murcia again achieved a very high regard being chosen among the 10 finalist cities in Europe.

Remember that the city of Murcia is carried out, in addition to these specific actions, other permanent measures for the same purpose, such as the Sustainable Mobility Plan and the Bicycle Master Plan, through which encourages mobility more sustainable, and work on expanding the network of cycling trails routes, cycle lanes, the bicycle parking, the park and ride car, intermodal, or improvements in public transport among others.
