The President of the Autonomous Community, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, and the rector of the University, José Antonio Cobacho, today inaugurated the new buildings of the faculties of Optometry and Fine Arts, as part of the development works of expanding the northern part of campus de Espinardo.
These actions have involved a total investment of 16 million euros and include commissioning of new facilities at the University Hospital of Integral Vision (Cuvier) in the School of Optics, photovoltaic parking in front of Fine Arts and the development of roads and adjacent areas between faculties, which has built the Plaza de la Amistad.
The authorities present, among which were also the mayor of Murcia, Miguel Ángel Cámara, the Minister for Universities and Research Company, Salvador Marin and Social Council President, Juan Bernal, among others, toured the premises of the Faculty Optics and Optometry, which includes all functions related to the discipline into one building and ends with the previous dispersion.
The School of Optometry, which, as highlighted both the chancellor and the president of the Community, is the first in this area of health sciences that exists in Spain, with 4,600 square footage has distributed over four levels and three modules integrating the teaching and administration facilities, as well as those relating to Optometry, Ophthalmology and Cuvier, the latter center headed by Professor Edmund Usón.
As for the Faculty of Fine Arts, has opened the module which houses the departments, offices, classroom grades, library, cafeteria, main lobby, photocopying and other areas, completing the building the first phase of the project which developed the construction of classrooms and workshops.
Both schools have solar panels for hot water, which together with its design contributes to energy efficiency and the use of natural resources.
