The renowned author will yield the most valuable works of his collection as a tribute to the birthplace.
The paintings will be exhibited in a major exhibition in the Palace of Almudí.
The value of the gift exceeds 600,000 euros and most of the works are portraits, oil paintings and watercolors of the city of Murcia.
The Mayor of Murcia, Miguel Angel House, has signed an agreement with the painter José María Falgas allowing the donation of a hundred paintings of the city.
The incorporation of these pieces municipal heritage is one of the largest donations in the history of the City of Murcia.
The total value of the components of the donation exceeds 600,000 euros and Murcia all may admire in a major exhibition which opens at the Palace of Almudí in late January.
The project was managed by the Department of Popular Culture, led by Rafael Gómez, and technicians from Murcia City Program was aimed at recovering the rich heritage of Murcia.
Among the works that José María Falgas donated to the city are several famous portraits of Murcia and a large number of landscapes of the new XXI century Murcia, still lifes, landscapes, made during his travels in many Arab countries and scenes associated with Easter or Murcia Bethlehem and characteristic corners of the city.
Mayor House thanked the generosity of the artist and stressed that Murcia is now in debt to one of the most outstanding authors in the national art scene.
In addition, the Mayor stressed the importance of the donation, which will allow Murcia can approach the work of Falgas and enjoy a unique and splendid view of Murcia.
The artist explained that with this grant intended to pay tribute to the city of Murcia, through its Consistory, "I baptize you in 1948 for art scholarship that allowed me to enroll in the School of Fine Arts of San Fernando ".
In the donation also includes portraits of famous painters and sculptors, among them are Antonio Gala, Rafael Alberti or García Márquez, and pieces of great value as portraits of the artist's parents or his own self.
As regards the technique used in these works are oil paintings on various materials, watercolors, drawings in pencil and charcoal.
José María Falgas (Murcia, 1929) is considered one of the best painters of the last century Murcia.
In its extensive production, part of the realism, poetry merges with the light, the master still life with splendid portraits, his work on the beauty of landscapes, but also huertanos exotic countries where it has enjoyed long stays, or the numerous pictures on festivals and traditions.
