The UCAM remembers the victims of the earthquake in Haiti (12/01/2011)

UCAM has received this morning a ceremony in memory of earthquake victims in Haiti to mark the first anniversary.

Thousands of students, with faculty and university staff have lit candles in memory of the victims, and have done a minute of silence.

The Catholic University president, José Luis Mendoza, recalled the project being undertaken by the University in Haiti, through an initiative by the NGO Action Fire, for the construction of temporary shelters.

The event has been dedicated to the activity 'Credit solidarity' which will run throughout the day today.

The event, organized by the Department of Human and Religious Sciences at the Catholic University of Murcia, is addressing issues related to volunteerism and social cooperation.

Notably, the activity also has the support of the Association of Victims of Terrorism, and the Federation of Associations of People with Spinal Cord Injury and severe physical disabilities (ASPAYM).

During the morning, representatives have presented the campaign ASPAYM 'Preventing road injury', and have described their experience in relation to those affected by road accidents.

In addition, it has been shown in the exhibition "Life in missions.

The day of the week has ended with a final prayer and a wreath for the victims of ETA terrorism.

In the afternoon, attendees will gather in groups to hear the testimonies of people who have participated in voluntary campaigns and then set out the conclusions drawn from the day.
