Octogenarians infarction receive less treatment than younger hospitalized, according thesis (03/01/2011)

Octogenarians hospitalized after suffering an acute myocardial infarction receive "less often" the drugs recommended in clinical practice guidelines compared with other patients, according to the findings of the doctoral thesis presented at the Faculty of Medicine, University Murcia.

This research, in which the author, Antonio Padilla Serrano, has obtained excellent cum laude, says these older patients less frequently received treatment with thienopyridines and heparin, among others.

"But he adds the dissertation, there were no differences between the two age groups regarding the administration of aspirin and inhibitors."

To do this research, the author analyzed the patients by acute myocardial infarction admitted over two years in two coronary care units in the Region of Murcia.

The study was led by Professor of the University of Murcia José Galcerà Thomas and tried by a court presided over Juan Antonio Ruipérez Abizanda.
