The PSOE claims the City Council to increase economic aid to fund extracurricular activities in schools in Murcia (29/11/2010)

Secretary of Education of the Municipal Executive, María José Tristant, has asked the City Council of Murcia that raises funds to cover extra-curricular activities, moving to make public.

It has also sued the City Council to start investing in public facilities that improve the quality of education in the municipality.

Tristant explains that even though Spain in a country where education is free there are still many costs borne by parents to enable access to education.

In this sense, the head of the Municipal Executive Education explains that only the start of the course each family has to face an average cost of between 620 and 1,030 euros in school supplies, according to data from the Confederation of Consumers and Users.

This figure may vary depending on the school and a public school if the average is 600 euros, if entered into between 800 and 900 euros, and if deprived rises to 1,100 euros.

But this amount must be added a number of other significant costs throughout the year, as families are forced to use school services to reconcile work and family life.

For example, explains Tristant in a family where both spouses work and are forced to leave their children at school at 8 am and pick them up at 6 pm, have to pay 38 euros service morning, 90 dining and 40 euros in two extracurricular activities by a cost of 168 euros per month, equivalent to 1,680 euros per year, regardless of transport and excursions.

In addition, it is normal that a family has two children with which this cost is doubled to over 3,000.

If the school is arranged or private spending soars to 7,000 euros.

The head of Education requests the City Council that is sensitive to the families of Murcia, in these times of economic hardship and real bet for public education, increasing the amounts allocated to cover extracurricular activities in public and subsidized schools which would undoubtedly alleviate the battered pockets of parents who face a return to college increasingly face.
