Through this cooperation project, Murcia help Salé City to develop an energy plan to reduce their emissions of greenhouse gases

The leadership position of the City of Murcia in the development of energy saving schemes and reducing emissions of greenhouse gases has been endorsed by the European Union, which this administration has chosen to advise the two cities of Morocco and Belarus the creation of action plans for sustainable energy.

This Cooperation Project "Sustainable Urban Energy SURE," which seeks to involve cities in the countries bordering the EU policies to combat climate change.

Specifically, the plan seeks to assist the cities of Salé (Morocco) and Polotsk (Belarus) to develop an action program for sustainable energy and commitment to adhere to a 20% reduction in emissions of greenhouse gases by 2020, of the Covenant of Mayors.

An Action Plan for Sustainable Energy describes the specific steps that must be done in the municipality to achieve a more rational use of energy, encouraging savings and strengthening its renewable energy.

The Mayor, Miguel Ángel Cámara, presented a written plan for the municipality of Murcia, which seeks to achieve a total saving of 1770.78 GWh / year in 2020, in terms of emissions, means avoiding over tCO2 557,204.94 / year.

The cumulative energy savings provided by the plan through 2020 totals more than 7,000 GWh.

Murcia help the City of Sale, near Rabat, to develop an energy assessment of their municipality, 10 municipal buildings energy audit and develop an Action Plan for Sustainable Energy.

In addition, Murcia collaborate with the implementation of a pilot action on energy efficiency and / or renewable energy in Salé valued at 40,000 €.

This project is funded 50% by Murcia and Friedrichshafen.

The other 50% is contributed by the EU.

Similarly, Murcia assist in the performance of another similar pilot in Polotsk and organize a training course on energy issues for municipal employees of the City of Rabat.

The ultimate aim is that the cities of Rabat and Polotsk sign the Covenant of Mayors and commit to a 20% reduction in emissions of greenhouse gases in the city through conservation measures and energy efficiency.

The project has a duration of 12 months.

This week a meeting is held in Salé transnational project to be attended by senior officials of the Ministry of Energy of the country, which will present the roadmap to follow for the energy assessment of the municipality and sustainable energy plan for Moroccan city.

This project is funded by the EU to 50% through the Office of International Cooperation of the EU within the "CITY program in urban development cooperation and dialogue" and involves the cities of Friederichshafen (Germany), Salé (Morocco) Laore Agency Sardinia (Italy), the city of Polotsk (Belarus), the Institution "Interaction" of Belarus and the Deutsch-Weissrussisches Haus association in Germany.
