A doctoral thesis says that the anxiety of the couple can compromise the health of the unborn (26/11/2010)

The anxiety of the couple may adversely affect the unborn child, according to one of the conclusions of the doctoral thesis in the Department of Psychology and Education at the University of Murcia by Ana Regina Rodrigues, who has won the excellent cum laude.

This research indicates that their results "point to a negative relationship between levels of anxiety, both men and women, with the degree of satisfaction with married life, as well as the degree of bonding with no born. "

He adds that "the results seem to show that the psychological aspects that come into play during pregnancy, particularly those that are a source of anxiety, shared by men and women and also may compromise the baby's health before and after birth. "

Another finding states that "the welfare of the family can influence the health of the unborn child in a positive way if you keep your marriage satisfaction, develop strategies to cope with anxiety and have knowledge about the capabilities of unborn child to enable them to assess the importance of prenatal life of the baby and to bond with him. "

The thesis concludes with the recommendation that primary care programs are implemented as a preventive measure, "not only the father and mother but also to the unborn child."

This research has been directed by Professors Gustavo Alfredo Brito de la Nuez and Julio Pérez López.
