Two students from the UCAM present a control project for assistance in the classroom (24/11/2010)

Two students from the Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia (UCAM), recently presented a technology system capable of recording the attendance of students and teachers.

The project, which works by using radio frequency identification technology (RFID, Radio Frequency Identification), has already been tested in selected classrooms.

The system has been developed as a Final Project by Daniel Alarcon and Alfonso Palazón, both students of Telecommunications and Information Technology, consists of three main components: a card that will hold each user and that uniquely identify them, an antenna , located at the entrance of the classroom and will be doing the reading card, identifying each of the users and software, in charge of processing the data acquired by the antenna and will be used for reporting.

According to the executors have assured the project will use a technology that quickly and does not involve any effort on your part.

They have also added that the system will improve the current model of care control, based on the signing of templates by users.

"The goal of our project is to improve the current system time and attendance, is to save time, material resources, reduce distractions in the classroom and make a more reliable system," he assured the student Alfonso Palazón.

Mode identification

To implement the project, a device placed at the entrance of the classroom, in which there will be a prominent area, which each user must swipe the card without having it touch the device.

The system also has a LED indicator that will indicate the correct use of the application.

Notably, the identification process is carried out both on entering and leaving the classroom.

The system has already been tested in some classrooms at the UCAM, which has led to correct any existing errors and create a final version of the program.

After the test, students and teachers who used the new control system for assistance as assessed very positively.

On the reliability of the system, said Alfonso Palazón that has tried to create a system as reliable as possible, "if the teacher who teaches the class takes care of it, is an almost inviolable," he added.
