Environment scheduled educational activities in the mines of the Sierra de Carrascoy Councilwoman Martinez-Cache has made a visit to the area (21/11/2010)

The Department of Environment scheduled educational activities at existing mines in the mountains of Carrascoy that Adela Martinez-Cache councilman, accompanied by municipal technicians, is explored to assess the underground wealth they possess.

The mayor, accompanied by cavers Elf and the Centre Mont Rock club, together with a Technical Speleology, wanted to personally meet the unique biology and geology underground spaces of the town house, discovering the unique topography and morphology of these private spaces underground.

Along the route taken more than 1.5 kilometers by these large and extensive mines have been recognized and discover more of the elements used in the nineteenth century mining, such as baskets of esparto, spartans and Legon, and power admire the methods of extraction of iron ore with perforating veins using hand chisels.

In one of the galleries have been explored to discover a small colony of Bat Cave in full hibernation several horseshoe bats scattered in the same room.

The underworld is one of the least known environments on earth.

Mainly represented by caves and caverns, mines are rarely assessed although they have an environment similar to cavities and sometimes hold a more diverse fauna and flora, reflecting low-light conditions, horizontal and amplitude, which makes is also a favorable shelter for mammals and birds of prey such as bats, foxes, genets, owls, eagles.

These examinations and investigations conducted by the Department of Environment show interest in deeper understanding of these peculiar underground spaces with studies on the biology and geology.
